Tarragona, the cultural capital of the Costa Daurada, has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Tarragona reaffirms its strong commitment to cruise ship traffic and has enhanced its presence in the sector with the Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Dorada brand, with the aim of being a top-level tourist destination in the world of cruise ships.

The Roman monumental complex (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000), unique vestiges of medieval times, several Modernist buildings, museums, beaches and the seafront area make up the tourist attraction of Tarragona. It is a unique cultural destination, well complemented by its gastronomy and an urban and commercial network that guarantees visitor satisfaction. These are some of the characteristics with which the city has positioned itself as a benchmark destination for holding congresses, with a high quality trade fair and conference centre located in the heart of the city.

Of all the city’s festivals, Tarraco Viva stands out with its series of events showcasing Roman history.

In addition, Tarragona is the ideal base from which to access the wide range of recreational activities on the Costa Daurada, most notably the best theme park in southern Europe, PortAventura World & Parks Resort, featuring a water park, conference centre, three golf courses, numerous restaurants and the recently-opened Ferrari Land theme park.

Tarragona, which this year is premiering as a base port, expects to welcome forty thousand cruise ship passengers in 2017, strongly positioning Tarragona in the cruise ship market.

The city’s retail activity combines several formats that respond to all kinds of needs and preferences. The city centre is made up of traditional, local, high quality establishments as well as the main franchise stores. In terms of large retail spaces, Parc Central is a covered shopping mall that combines shopping and leisure areas. In addition, since 2010 Tarragona has had another large shopping centre, El Corte Inglés. On the outskirts of the city you will find Les Gavarres, a recreational and shopping area with large and medium-sized stores where an IKEA store will be opening soon.
